Escape to Paradise: Your Dream Stay at Citadines Al Ghubrah, Muscat!
Escape to Paradise? More Like a Whirlwind of Bliss (and Butterfingers) at Citadines Al Ghubrah, Muscat!
Okay, buckle up buttercups, because I'm about to spill the (sanitized!) tea on Citadines Al Ghubrah, Muscat. Forget perfectly polished brochures – you’re getting the real, slightly messy, utterly honest lowdown. Should you escape to paradise here? Let's dive in… and hope I don't drop my keycard again.
First Impressions (and the Accessibility Angle): Roll Out the Welcome Mat!
Right off the bat, I was impressed. Muscat can be intense, heat-wise, so the air conditioning in the public areas was seriously appreciated. Getting around was a breeze. The elevator was a godsend (especially after that buffet…) and finding access to the facilities for disabled guests seemed genuinely thought-through. Kudos to Citadines for taking that seriously. Accessibility is a BIG win.
Rooms: Sanctuary or…Slightly Cluttered Paradise?
My room? Well, it was… a room. Let's be real, you're here for the experience, not the square footage, right? The air conditioning blasted a perfect chill, that's crucial! The blackout curtains were a lifesaver after a day of poolside lounging (more on that later). I had an extra long bed, which was heavenly (I’m a restless sleeper), a mini-bar beckoning with sugary temptations, and a coffee/tea maker for those crucial morning boosts. The free Wi-Fi in all rooms! was a huge bonus, especially since I needed to blast my social media with all my photos…and the internet access – wireless was superb. Forget the fancy Bathtub, it was great to have Separate shower/bathtub.
But, a slight hiccup: my desk was a bit small, and the laptop workspace felt a tad cramped. And, okay, I'm a klutz. I may or may not have spilled coffee on the carpet – thankfully, daily housekeeping meant it was gone before I could even worry about it. The bathrobes were a nice touch, though. Seriously, who doesn't love a good bathrobe moment? Overall, a comfy base camp! Oh, and the soundproofing? It's legit. Slept like a baby, even with the (occasional) Muscat city symphony.
Sanity Savings: Cleanliness & Safety - Is It Actually Safe?
This is where Citadines truly shines. I am a bit of a germaphobe (don't judge!), but I felt completely safe. The anti-viral cleaning products were obvious. They had daily disinfection in common areas, the room sanitization opt-out available was a relief, and the hand sanitizer stations were everywhere. Even the hot water linen and laundry washing gave me peace of mind. And I always need hand sanitizer. The Staff trained in safety protocol, and they were wearing masks properly. Also, the first aid kit was there, visible and accessible. They have Anti-viral cleaning products. I would definitely say that I felt safe and secure. Even considering that I am a germaphobe.
Food, Glorious Food (and My Near-Disaster at the Buffet):
Alright, food! The breakfast buffet was… an experience. A glorious, carb-laden, almost disaster-filled experience. The Breakfast [buffet], was expansive, featuring a mix of Western breakfast and Asian breakfast options. There were desserts in restaurant, Soup in restaurant. The coffee was strong (thank GOD!) and the coffee/tea in restaurant was flowing. I might have gone slightly overboard with the pastries. Seriously, I nearly face-planted into a croissant mountain. (No judgments, okay?!) There was a vegetarian restaurant. I was glad that there were bottle of water. They also had Snack bar too. They have a poolside bar too, which is nice.
But let’s talk about the real star of the show: the poolside bar. Sipping a cocktail while gazing at the Pool with view, with the sun setting? Pure. Bliss. Side note: the Asian cuisine in restaurant was amazing. I highly recommend trying it.
Things to Do (and My Epic Fail at the Gym):
Okay, so Citadines isn't exactly a party hotel. More of a chill-out-and-recharge kind of place. The swimming pool [outdoor] was the perfect antidote to the Muscat heat – I practically lived in it. The Fitness center was there, which was great, even if I mostly used it to pose for photos rather than actually work out. The Gym/fitness was there. Let's just say my attempt at the treadmill was… brief. The sauna and Spa/sauna were a dream. They have Body wrap, Body scrub, Steamroom, Massage which is nice too.
Services & Conveniences: When You Need a Rescue (Or a Taxi):
The concierge was super helpful, especially when I needed to find a truly authentic Omani coffee shop (they knew just the place!). The 24-hour front desk and room service were a lifesaver. Need a Taxi service? The airport transfer was smooth as silk. Cashless payment service – big win! Forget scrambling for riyals. The dry cleaning and laundry service were also handy. They have Babysitting service.

Luxury Unveiled: AKA Alexandria Hotel - Your Dream VA Getaway
Okay, buckle the heck up, because this isn't your grandma's meticulously planned itinerary. This is my trip to the Citadines Al Ghubrah Muscat, and it's going to be a glorious, chaotic mess. Prepare yourselves…
Muscat Mayhem: A Whirlwind of Sand, Spice, and Questionable Choices
Day 1: Arrival of the Sultan (and Me, the Sultan-Adjacent)
- 1:00 PM: Arrival at Muscat International Airport (MCT). Okay, so I thought I'd be all zen and relaxed after the flight. Wrong. I was a sweaty, caffeine-deprived human. Finding the taxi rank was a freaking maze, a desert of humanity flailing in a desperate search for AC. Finally got a cab and prayed he knew where to find Citadines. He did, thank god.
- 1:45 PM: Check-in at Citadines Al Ghubrah. The lobby is surprisingly sleek, all polished marble and hushed voices. So not me. The receptionist, bless her heart, had to deal with me, my luggage that exploded mid-carry, and my general jetlagged grumpiness. Successfully checked in, somehow. Score!
- 2:30 PM: Apartment Reconnaissance. My apartment is… decent. Clean, air-conditioned (thank the heavens), and with a view of… buildings. Not exactly postcard material, but I'll take it. There's a weirdly placed ironing board in the corner, and I am already judging the level of humidity required to necessitate ironing. I’ve already decided I will not be using it.
- 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM: The "Do Not Disturb" Zone. Nap time. A glorious, sweaty, post-flight hibernation. I am not proud.
- 5:00 PM: Attempted Exploration: Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque (with a side of Mild Panic). I’d read the mosque was amazing. But guess what? You have to dress respectfully. I packed like I was going to a beach bonfire. Cue a mad scramble in the apartment, a desperate search for a scarf, and a general feeling of inadequacy. Managed to scrape together something kind of appropriate. The Mosque itself? Absolutely stunning. I was overwhelmed by the sheer scale and beauty. My brain might've short-circuited from the beauty overload. Almost forgot I was a sweaty mess beneath a borrowed headscarf.
- 7:30 PM: Dinner Disaster (More Like a Meal Filled With Regret). Walked to a local restaurant near the Citadines. The place was packed, the menu was entirely in Arabic, and I pointed randomly at things. Ended up with something that looked like a small brown mountain with a side of questionable oil and a strange aftertaste. I ate most of it. Don't ask me why. Maybe the jetlag.
- 9:00 PM: Collapse. Back in the room, watching bad TV, and wishing I had the energy to even think about planning the next day. I think I may have just eaten hours of my life away. I'm honestly not sure.
Day 2: Souk-Searching, Sand-Dune Dreaming, and Spilled Coffee Conundrums
- 8:00 AM: Attempted Breakfast. Failed. Citadines offers breakfast, but I woke up late from the food coma of the previous night. Ended up just having some instant coffee in my now-iron-free apartment.
- 9:00 AM: Muttrah Souk Meandering. God, the souk. It's a sensory overload in the best possible way. The smell of frankincense, the glint of gold jewelry, the relentless calls of "Hello, my friend!" from shopkeepers. Got thoroughly lost, haggled badly (I'm useless at bartering), and bought a scarf I probably won't wear. No regrets. Well, maybe on the scarf. I should have gone shopping.
- 12:00 PM: Lunch, the Sequel. Found a cute (and air-conditioned!) cafe outside the souk. Ordered a shawarma and watched the world go by, contemplating the existential nature of spices and the meaning of my life. Felt slightly less lost.
- 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM: Desert Safari (The Highlight, Maybe the Best Day Ever of My Life!). So, this was the thing I was most looking forward to. And it absolutely lived up to the hype! The drive to the desert was beautiful. Then… the dunes! The 4x4 bashing was terrifying and exhilarating. I screamed. I laughed. I felt like I was starring in an action movie. The sunset over the dunes was just… breathtaking. Truly. One of those "stick it in your memory forever" moments.
- 4:30 PM: Camel Riding (and minor indignity). Tried camel riding. It was more awkward than majestic. I wobbled. The camel looked incredibly bored. Took some utterly ridiculous photos, which I will treasure forever.
- 7:00 PM: Back in the Desert, Dinner and Stargazing! Amazing food, music, dancing, and a sky full of stars. I even saw a shooting star, and I made a wish for a life where I could eat endless shawarma and travel forever.
- 10:00 PM: Desert Dreams. Nightcap of Regret. Back to the hotel, buzzing. And then the ultimate mistake: I spilled coffee all over my laptop. I’m pretty sure the camera will never work properly, neither will the keyboard. I’m so screwed!
Day 3: The Fortress, The Fish, and the Final Farewell (or just my flight, I'm not getting too sentimental)
- 9:00 AM: Laptop Trauma and the Search for a Charger. Okay. So. I need a laptop. Desperately. Tried drying it with a hairdryer. (Stupid, I know.) It may be a total loss the situation is grim. Spent an hour wandering around looking for someone who knows how to fix a laptop. Not. Happening.
- 11:00 AM: Exploring Bahla Fort (a moment of Real Joy!). Finally got my act together and actually did something cultural. Bahla Fort is UNESCO World Heritage site, it’s stunning. Massive, ancient, and incredibly well-preserved. I wandered around, imagining all the history that had happened within its walls. Felt a real connection to the place, and the world. Actually, I felt pretty damn awesome being there!
- 1:00 PM: Muscat Fish Market (the Smell!). The Fish Market… intense. Fresh fish, the smell, the shouting. I'm not sure I loved it, but it’s definitely an experience.
- 2:00 PM: Lunch, Again! Needed a break from the fish. Found a small cafe, ordered something simple, and tried to process the sheer volume of experiences I'd had.
- 3:00 PM: Citadines Packing and Departure. Packing is a mess. Half my clothes are still wet from the Great Laundry Disaster of Day 1. Laptop is still dead. Overall, I'm feeling a little deflated.
- 4:00 PM: Airport. Headed Home. Reflections (and a deep breath). As I sat at the airport, I replayed the trip in my head. It was chaotic, imperfect, weird, and wonderful. I'd gotten lost, embarrassed myself, spilled coffee, and had the time of my life. Maybe the "imperfect" is what made it so perfect.
- 8:00 PM (approximately): Landing back home. Now I’m broke, but I'm full of memories.
This itinerary, while hopefully inspiring, is not for the faint of heart. But hey, if you want a truly memorable trip, embrace the chaos.

Escape to Paradise: Your Dream Stay at Citadines Al Ghubrah, Muscat - FAQs (and Me Rambling!)
Okay, seriously, is this *actually* paradise? Citadines, I mean.
Alright, look, "paradise" is a BIG word. I went in expecting pristine white sand and… well, I got a fantastic stay at Citadines Al Ghubrah, let me tell you. It wasn't *exactly* an untouched beach but, BUT, it was a seriously refreshing break. Think comfy beds, a decent pool (more on that later… it was *warm*!), and a location that's perfect if you want to explore Muscat. Still, paradise is *maybe* a little too much. It was… perfectly pleasant! Which, after the pre-vacation stress, was a victory.
The real paradise was probably getting to sleep in past 6 AM. Glorious.
What's the deal with the rooms? Spacious? Cramped? And the view… tell me about the view!!!
Okay, the rooms? Good. Not like, "OMG, I’m never leaving!" good. But genuinely good. I had a studio, and it was bigger than my entire London flat (which, let's be honest, isn't saying *much*). Plenty of space to spread out, which is a HUGE win. The kitchenette was a lifesaver for morning coffee (essential!), and the bed… oh, the bed. I slept like a log. Seriously. I think I forgot how to human for a bit.
The view? Well, that depends on what you book. I specifically *didn't* book a sea view. (Call me thrifty!) I had a city view. It was… the city. Buildings. Cars. It was fine. Next time? I’m splurging. I want that ocean. That would be paradise.
The pool! Is it good? Tell me everything! I need a good pool!
Alright, the pool. THIS is where things get interesting. The pool is… there. And it’s warm. Like, suspiciously warm. Almost bathwater warm. It’s lovely, but honestly, it wasn't always the most *refreshing* escape from the heat. But, and this is a big but, It was never overly crowded. One day I went down there and literally had the entire pool to myself! That was a moment of pure bliss. Floating in warm water, staring up at the cloudless sky after getting my perfect poolside lounge, was... well, close to paradise. The pool area itself is well-maintained and there were always enough sunbeds (another win!). So, yeah, the pool is good. Not *perfect*, but definitely enjoyable. Plus, they have pool towels!
Food, glorious food! What's the breakfast like? (I'm a breakfast person, sue me!)
Oh. My. GOSH. The breakfast. Okay, so, the breakfast buffet? It was... comprehensive. There were SO many options my brain almost exploded. The usual suspects were there, eggs (cooked every which way), pastries (mmm, pastries), fresh fruit (so, so good), even some local Omani specialties. I'm not going to lie, I may have gone a little overboard on the pastries. Seriously, I think I peaked on the second morning. I was SO full, the rest of the day was a blur. Seriously. I should’ve paced myself. But it was so. Good. I regret nothing. Except maybe the amount of Baklava I ate. That was a mistake.
The staff working breakfast were amazing. Seriously friendly and helpful, always making sure that everything was fresh. They truly made the morning experience just that more memorable.
How's the location? Is it easy to get around?
The location is pretty decent. It's in Al Ghubrah, which is a relatively close to the beach, and not too far from some of the main attractions. Getting around? You'll want to either taxi, rent a car or use the hotel's shuttle. Walking is, well, let's just say it gets HOT. I personally embraced the taxi life and used the app-based ones. They were easy, reliable and cheap. However, getting a taxi during the peak of the day can be annoying, so plan ahead. The hotel staff were extremely helpful with calling taxis and giving directions. The staff were excellent, honestly, I felt like I was being treated more than just another guest.
Anything I should be aware of before booking? Any downsides? (Be honest!)
Okay, honesty time. Downsides? Well, it's not *right* on the beach. You'll need to walk/taxi. Also, the Wi-Fi was a little… patchy in my room at times. And, I did hear some noise from the road at night – but I’m also a light sleeper, so maybe it was worse for me. The construction next door was also a bit distracting. But again, these are minor things, and frankly, didn’t detract much from my overall experience. They were small inconveniences, which considering how great the hotel was, don't even matter.
Would you go back? Seriously, would you?
Absolutely. One hundred percent. I'd go back in a heartbeat. Those pastries…(don't make me start again. Okay, I'll stop) They're amazing. The staff were great. The bed was super comfy... and it was just such a great overall experience, that I think it's a no-brainer.
Is there a gym? Because I swear I need to work off those pastries.
Yes! There is a gym. I didn’t use it (don't judge me!), but it looked pretty decent. Equipment, treadmills, the whole shebang. So, if you are one of those disciplined types, you're in luck. Me? I'll stick to exploring the city... after I eat a pastry (okay, I'll stop now...).
